It’s kind of a nuisance to have to go somewhere and not know the address. You have to do all kinds of research beforehand, to google the name and then hope that there’s not more than one place with that specific denomination in your town, and only after that you’d go to Google Maps, insert the destination address and get the help you sought after.
Nick Lee, a software engineer with the Google Maps, has just
announced in a post on the Google Lat Long Blog that the above is no longer the case. They’ve made the extra effort to incorporate a search for the name of the place as well. Great news, actually there’s no reason for me to ask, I know. All you have to do now is type it in and get the directions as if by magic. And as a bonus, they’ve also thrown in the closest destination matching your query for checking out.
The applications for this are enormous, given that you can now search for certain places based either on name or on region / street. Want a pizza place that’s not too far from your office? Type the street and you’ll get a list of pizza places, rated and everything, and you’re good to go.
There’s a lot of hard work done to get all of the things right and perhaps at times people don’t appreciate at the fullest extent what others do for them. This just struck me the other day when I found out, amazed, that I don’t know if there’s a good Italian restaurant on my street, I’ve never paid enough attention. And an hour later, I read about this new feature that finds those places for you. They say that life is about little things, such as this.
